Venous Doppler

Ultrasound imaging is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions.
Venous ultrasound provides pictures of the veins throughout the body.
A Doppler ultrasound study may be part of a venous ultrasound examination.
Doppler ultrasound is a special ultrasound technique that allows the physician to see and evaluate blood flow through arteries and veins in the abdomen, arms, legs, neck and/or brain (in infants and children) or within various body organs such as the liver or kidneys.

What are some common uses of the procedure?

The most common reason for a venous ultrasound exam is to search for blood clots, especially in the veins of the leg. This condition is often referred to as deep vein thrombosis or DVT. These clots may break off and pass into the lungs, where they can cause a dangerous condition called pulmonary embolism. If the blood clot in the leg is found early enough, treatment can be started to prevent it from passing to the lung.

determine the cause of long-standing leg swelling. In people with a common condition called “varicose veins”, the valves that keep blood flowing back to the heart in the right direction may be damaged, and venous ultrasound can help the radiologist decide how best to deal with this condition.
aid in the placement of a needle or catheter into a vein. Sonography can help locate the exact site of the vein and avoid complications, such as bleeding or damage to a nearby nerve or artery.
map out the veins in the leg or arm so that pieces of vein may be removed and used to bypass a narrowed or blocked blood vessel. An example is using pieces of vein from the leg to surgically bypass narrowed heart (coronary) arteries.
examine a blood vessel graft used for dialysis if it is not working as expected; for example, the graft may be narrowed or blocked.

Venogram

What is a venogram?

A venogram is an x-ray test that involves injecting x-ray contrast material (dye) into a vein to shows how blood flows through your veins. This allows a physician to determine the condition of your veins.

An x-ray (radiograph) is a noninvasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions. Imaging with x-rays involves exposing a part of the body to a small dose of ionizing radiation to produce pictures of the inside of the body. X-rays are the oldest and most frequently used form of medical imaging.

What are some common uses of the procedure?

A venogram is commonly used to:

assess the status of a vein or system of veins
find blood clots within the veins
assess varicose veins before surgery
find a vein in good condition to use for a bypass procedure or dialysis access
help a physician place an IV or a medical device, such as a stent, in a vein
guide treatment of diseased veins.

What Our Patients Say…

Don’t take our word about our exceptional customer service. We have a reputation that speaks for itself. As you can see, our patients report rave reviews about our practice.

I just finished my 4th appointment with Dr. Awosika today and another prescription drug has been reduced to halfthe daily amount! Also, within 3 months of following his diet and exercise directions my GFR went from 44 up to 60! I know of others who’ve had such success. He and his staff are very professional, friendly and easy to talk to. I highly recommend Dr. Awosika.

My back story is that I had a non-functional kidney for many years, which symptoms has been misdiagnosed as GI problems until I ended up in the ER with severe pain, and required emergent removal of that kidney. My experience with my previous Nephrologist was not the greatest, mostly because any time I would discuss my concerns about my kidney health, he simply said that I’m young and have nothing to worry about. A friend referred me to Dr. Awosika, and I have never been happier about her suggestion to see him. He always listens to my concerns, sends me for testing related to those concerns, and looks at my test results before saying everything is ok. He considers lifestyle changes before suggesting medication, if appropriate. I truly appreciate his dedication to patient care and would recommend him to any of my friends and family.

I met Dr. Awosika about 4 years ago when I was a patient at Health Central Hospital in Ocoee, Florida. At the request of my doctor, I followed up with a visit to his office. He provided me with detailed information regarding the issues with my kidneys and set a goal for me to achieve. Over the years my kidney functions have greatly improved due to the diet, medication and instructions he provided. I have encountered nothing but professionalism from Dr. Awosika over the years I have visited him and his staff has exercised nothing but the same.

When my doctor told me I was being referred to a kidney specialist I was very nervous and apprehensive for my first appointment. From the moment I entered Dr. Awosika’s office I was greeted with the most cheerful and fun people that made me feel like I had been there many times before. I cannot tell you how much this helped me get passed that initial fear. Thank you all….you are the very best!
